About ME
Thank you for visiting the Flutter by Lorraine website.
I’m Lorraine Hall, an artist & illustrator based on the outskirts of County Durham. My business name, Flutter By Lorraine was inspired by my passion for butterflies, bees and dragonflies all of which frequently appear in my paintings.
I take my inspiration mainly from nature, usually using watercolours. I feel at home outdoors and my artwork is strongly influenced by the natural wonders that surround us. I love to walk and can be regularly found with my watercolour pad and paints in woodland areas or in a field full of flowers, recording first-hand the natural beauties we see outdoors.
My style is quirky and unique, with a fun, cheerful, uplifting element. Most of my paintings include my signature splash/spiral effect.
Much love, Lorraine
MY LATEST WORK
I like to think I spread happiness through my artwork, the main purpose being that it brings a smile and creates a feeling of positivity.
Wellbeing is very important to me, and painting, which has always been my passion allows me to find time and space in my busy life (I also work part time as an Early Years teacher) to look after myself by indulging in an activity that I love.
When I’m not teaching, I can be found working from my studio ‘The Beehive’ at the beautiful Ushaw House and Gardens which is only a short walk from my home. It’s such an inspirational place from which to work and most of my paintings are created here.
Alongside book illustration projects, individual requests and commission work my collections have continued to grow. I’ve taken on more challenging projects, including designing and painting an enormous Shaun the Sheep Sculpture ‘Dragonfly Wishes’, which spent the Summer of 2023 in a prominent position in Newcastle raising vital funds for St Oswald’s Hospice.
I hope you enjoy browsing my website. If I can help you further, I’d love to hear from you.
